Bones playing is one of the oldest rhythm instruments known to man. The Egyptians, Romans and Greeks were bones players. Orginally crafted from the rib bones of animals, "bones" are also made from a variety of woods. Johnny prefers ebony wood. Bones playing was popular in America in Black Face shows and on the Vaudeville stage and is enjoying a resurgence of popularity with Celtic music.
